FACTS ABOUT KENTUCKY
A GREAT TEAM BUILDING LOCATION
The name Kentucky can be attributed to various Native American languages with several possible meanings from “land of tomorrow” to “cane and turkey lands” to “meadow lands.” Kentucky is also known as The Bluegrass State.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky became the 15th U.S. state when it was admitted to the U.S. in 1792.
Kentucky is most well known for thoroughbred horses and horse racing (the Kentucky Derby), local bourbon whisky distilleries, bluegrass music and enthusiasm for basketball, particularly for the two primary basketball rivals in the state—University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals.
Famous Kentuckians include:
Muhammad Ali – World heavyweight champion of boxing; born in Louisville.
George Clooney – Actor made famous in the television show ER; born in Lexington.
Duncan Hines – Founder of Duncan Hines company; born in Bowling Green.
Loretta Lynn – Country music singer; born in Butcher Holler
Abraham Lincoln – The 16th President of the United States; born in Hardin County.
Diane Sawyer – The first female reporter on 60 Minutes; born in Glasgow.
